President's Letter

Momentum.  Not only was this the buzzword for the 2018 GBTA Convention this past summer in San Diego, but the word is also synonymous with energy, strength, and drive.  Keep moving forward!

Moving forward is exactly what our Baltimore-Washington Chapter intends to do.

On the heels of an immensely informative, yet bitter-sweet Education Day this past October 2018, many new yet exciting changes occurred for the BWBTA Board of Directors.  These changes prompt us, our fantastic Chapter, to come together, grow, and move forward into 2019.

Our creative and passionate leader, Yukari Tortorich has moved forward with an exciting opportunity to relocate to another state with her company. As a result, I am honored to take the reigns as your new President of the Chapter; and are proud to announce that Dawn Spriggs-Hall will be taking over my position as the Treasurer.

In addition to this bittersweet goodbye, Jim Pio and the entire Philadelphia BTA Chapter are moving forward to migrate as an official GBTA Chapter.  Thus, Jim will be separating from the BWBTA Board to continue his position as the President of the Philadelphia BTA Chapter. As Jim moves on, we welcome Patrick Shanahan as our new VP of Technology.

Sharon Tolliver Wilson and Amy Campbell have also vacated their positions on the Board to move forward with new opportunities beyond our scope. Yet, momentum continues and we are excited to welcome Travis Peterson as our new Allied Member at Large.

Yes, much has changed, however, many of your Board Members remain dedicated to the continued success and momentum of our Chapter!

Erin Cassidy (Secretary), Alison Browne Parks (VP of Venue Selection), Ryan E. Hoehne (VP of Social Media), Denise R Lane (VP of Sponsorships), Dorene Elizabeth Shanahan (VP of Membership), Richard C Markus (VP of Programs & Education), Carol McDowell (Direct Member at Large) and myself will continue to serve. With the help of our Chapter members (you!) and incoming Board Members, we all look forward to moving the Chapter onward and upward into 2019 and beyond.

I mention everyone by name since it is the people who give strength to the BWBTA Chapter and strength to GBTA. Our collective knowledge combined, grows and innovates us to keep the business travel industry moving forward with more efficiency, productivity, and safety for everyone involved.  Experience and innovation are needed from every individual within our Chapter in order for us to thrive and keep moving forward.  I urge you to become involved, attend our meetings, speak up, ask questions, answer questions, make suggestions – all are welcome. The only criteria we ask for?  A passion for Business Travel.

Momentum means having the drive to stay on top of all the trends and incorporate them into our monthly educational programs; giving you the opportunity to not only learn but to connect and participate in comprehensive conversations around what’s important to you. Upcoming meetings in 2019 include:
