Executive Director Maryland Aviation Administration


Mr. Wiedefeld has 30 years of public and private sector transportation management experience.  Paul currently serves as Executive Director of the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, where he is responsible for the planning, operation and management of BWI, which served a record 22.5 million passengers in 2011. Paul previously served as BWI’s Executive Director from 2002 until 2005, where he managed the largest expansion in the Airport’s history.  Prior to returning to BWI, Paul served as Administrator of the Maryland Transit Administration, the 10th largest transit system in theUnited States.  In the private sector, Paul has ten years of business and project management experience with the international transportation engineering firm, Parsons Brinckerhoff.  Paul received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Towson University and a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University.


Dennis E. Hazell

Associate Executive Staff Coordinator

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority


Dennis Hazell is the Associate Executive Staff Coordinator for Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.  He supports the terminal and airfield operations, as well as focusing on the overall customer service experience at Washington Dulles International Airport.  


Dennis holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA.  Prior to joining the Authority in June 2007, Dennis spent twenty-three years with American Airlines.  Beginning his career as a flight attendant, he accepted management positions in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Tulsa, Albany, Richmond, and Washington Dulles, where he spent the last ten years as the General Manager.


He has also been involved in several community activities including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, United Way, Loudoun County’s Teachers in Industry Project, and he serves as a Board Director for the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce. 


In his spare time, he likes spending time with his family and enjoys bike riding and singing in his church choir. 


BWBTA meets bi-monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
